After the successful launch of walking football earlier this month, The Holbrook Club have partnered with Horsham District Council to introduce walking basketball to the area. The sport will expand our growing programme of activities designed for people aged over 50 years old. Starting with a free taster session on Wednesday 10th February (10-11am) for men and women of all abilities and basketball experience levels, including absolute beginners.
Everyone has seen the Barclays television adverts that have sparked interest in and popularised walking football as an activity for people aged 50+ to stay active, socialise and have fun but less people will be aware that a number of other sports have developed walking versions to engage older participants too. Basketball is one of these that has led to a number of sessions starting up around the country and Horsham is set to get in on the act.
The session will be led by local coach Nick Probin who has been involved in mens, ladies and youth basketball locally for many years and who has visited walking sessions in Surrey as a basis for getting to getting to grips with the adapted version of the sport. If the taster is successful it will lead to more regular opportunities.
There is no need to pre-book for the taster session, people should just turn up and give it a go or, if preferred, just take a look!
